The Logan area lost 23 percent of its construction jobs from November 2008 to November 2009, according to a new report from the Associated General Contractors of America (ACG).
The decline ranks Logan 16th among metropolitan areas in the U.S. that have lost the most construction jobs. As for actual numbers, Logan’s employed construction workforce dropped from 3,100 workers in late 2008 to 2,400 workers in late 2009.

Chris Nelson with the University of Utah’s Metropolitan Research Center said this week that by 2030 the Wasatch Front, including Logan, would need 450,000 additional housing units — 50 percent more than now — and 1.1 billion feet of commercial space, more than double what’s out there now.

According to KSL, right now Logan Utah, surrounded by the mountains in Cache Valley has the WORST air quality in the country. The air is literally unhealthy to breathe. It aggravates lung and heart conditions and affects healthy people. Inverstion gets trapped in the Valley, and then pollution from cars and fires also contributes to the unhealthy air.
To help alleviate this we can drive less, and not allow our cars to idle. The only way we could really get rid of the bad air is if nobody drove in the winter during inversion days. But with our culture and lifestyle, this likely isn’t going to happen. Overall this is just one of the consequences of living in Cache Valley.

On the radio this morning there was talk of a new traffic light that will be coming soon to Logan on the scary intersection on Highway 89 and about 10th South. The intersection by the new Walmart, Mcdonalds, and Cornerstone Real Estate.
Since the new road was formed less than a year ago this intersection has already accounted for 13 traffic accidents including two fatalities. Now that roads are snow and icy, this intersection is even more dangerous.
They also discussed the future of 10th West, and talked about a three phase project where it will eventually be a five lane road that goes all the way from highway 89 to the airport. Having this as a more major road should help alleviate some of the traffic on main street.
